43rd Annual Conference IPS will be organized by National Executive Committee -2010 in association with "Food & Drug Toxicology Research Centre , NIN (ICMR) on 13th to 16th Dec-2010 at Hyderabad.

Bye-Laws / Rules

5. PROF. NARANJAN DHALLA AWARD IN CARDIOVASCULAR SCIENCES: :
The conditions of the award shall be as follows
  • The awardee shall be an Indian national and life member of Indian Pharmacological Society who has made original contributions in the field of Cardiovascular Sciences with special reference to basic sciences.

  • The award shall be presented at a special Session of the Annual Conference of the IPS.

  • In this special Session, the awardee will present his research contributions in the form of an Oration.

  • Applications/Nominations along with four copies of important publications be invited from the members of the Society at least four months before the Annual Conference.

    The awardee may be selected by a 3-member committee consisting of the President of the Society and two member nominated by the Executive Committee of the Society. The Committee may transact business by post or e-mail.

  • The selected candidate may be informed about the Award at least two months before the Annual Conference

  • The Society and the Donor or his Nominee may modify the terms and conditions of the Award any time after mutual consultations

  • The endowment fund of Rs 3,30,000 donated by Professor Dhalla be put in a long-term fixed deposit in a National Bank , and the interest accrued on this deposit be used for the award which will consist of -

    • Cash award of Rs 20,000
    • A mounted engraved brass Plaque (15 cm X 20 cm size) along with a citation
    • Travel expenses of the awardee to enable him/her to attend the Conference.
6. PROFESSOR P.K.DAS TRAVELING GRANT FOR YOUNG CARDIOVASCULAR PHARMACOLOGIST.

The conditions of the award shall be as follows:

All life member of Indian Pharmacological Society will be eligible for applying for the grant.

The age limit shall be 40 years or less (on the last date for receiving the application).

General Secretary shall call for applications by public announcements in the IJP, New letter and other suitable methods.

Prescribed application along with the relevant enclosures needs to be submitted (4 copies) to the General Secretary at least 4 months before the Annual Conference.

Awardee shall be selected by a panel of 3 judges as suggested by the Executive body of the Society.

The selection will be announced at the Annual meeting of the IPS

The awardee must submit a certificate of completion and a brief report of the training received, within 1 year.

The Society and the Donor or his Nominee may modify the terms and conditions of the Award any time after mutual consultations.

The endowment fund of Rs 120,000 donated by Professor Naranjan Dhalla be put in a long-term fixed deposit in a National Bank, and the interest accrued on this deposit be used for the Award which will consist of -

a) A Cash award of Rs 10,000.

b) A certificate

7. SAROJ SHARMA PRIZE FOR THE BEST PAPER PUBLISHED IN CARDIOVASCULAR SCIENCES

Prof. V.N. Sharma, a very senior member and the past president of the Society donated Rs.50,000 (Fifty thousand rupees) to start an Annual prize to a member of the Society for the best research paper published in any journal (Indian or |International) on any aspect of Cardiovascular sciences. The work for the paper must have been conducted in India. Paper published in the preceding three years may be submitted for the prize. The amount donated to the Indian Pharmacological Society will be put into a long term fixed deposit in one of the Nationalized Bank.

The interest incurred will be deposited in Savings Bank account and the expenses incurred on Prize will be met from the interest money.

A committee consisting of the following shall decide the speaker of oration:

i) President, I.P.S. - Governor

ii) General Secretary, I.P.S.

iii) Chief Editor

iv ) Two experts nominated by E.C.

The authors will receive Silver medal, a cash prize of Rs 2000/- and certificate. The cash will be shared in case of multiple authors.

Q (a) Guidelines for Orations and Awards:

(i)The procedure for the selection of Orations may be started before March and the candidates delivering Orations must be finalized before the Mid-term EC meeting”.

(ii) For various Oration any life member can nominate the distinguished Pharmacologist giving Biodata that may be forwarded by the President or the General Secretary for consideration for particular Oration. These may be maintained and updated from time to time for subsequent years”

(iii) The procedure for the Prizes for the Published papers may also be started before March with the First Newsletter. Last dates for various prizes may be fixed as 1st May 2002. The winners should be informed atleast two months before the conference.

PRIZES AWARDED DURING CONFERENCE FOR THE PRESENTATION OF SCIENTIFIC PAPERS

1. ACHARI PRIZE :- Prof. Govind Achari and Prof. Kamala Achari initially donated Rs.2,000/- subsequently raised to Rs.5,000/- to award a prize every year out of the bank interest accruing every year on the deposit as per rules given below :-

a) The prize is to be awarded to a member of the Society who is below the age of 35 years who presents the best paper at the annual conference.

b) The person who presents the paper should be first author of the paper.

c) The organizing secretary of the conference shall organize a special session for the presentation of papers for the Achari prize.

d) Papers should be sent specially for the competition to the organizing secretary.

e) One person is allowed to present only one paper for this prize.

f) If the number of papers selected for presentation is less than 5 in any year no prize shall be awarded.

g) The executive committee of the Society shall appoint a panel of 3 judges who will assist the president of the Society in judging the best paper.

2. U.K. SHETH PRIZE : Approved and adopted by the General Body meeting of the Society held on 23-11-82 at Chandigarh.

Eligibility : Valid members of the Society are eligible to compete this prize. The work must have been conducted in an Indian Laboratory. The presenting author must be a registered active delegate for the conference.

Conditions for submitting enteries : Four copies of the full paper must be submitted by the announced date, to the Organising Secretary. The first author of the paper will be allowed to present the work and the consent of the Co-author should be submitted along with the undertaking that neither the work has been published nor submitted for publication. The work should not have received or submitted for any award. The prize winning paper may be published in the Indian Journal of Pharmacology following necessary editing.

Methods of Conduct and Judgement :- The organizing secretary will constitute a scrutiny committee consisting of 3 members nor connected in any way with the paper or the laboratory where the work has been done. The members of the scrutiny committee will give marks on the basis of quality of work, aims of the study, results and their interpretation. The identity of author and the place of work shall not be disclosed to scrutiny committee members. Maximum of 10 papers adjudged and ranked on the basis of the results submitted by the members of the scrutiny committee shall be presented in one of the sessions of the clinical pharmacology. Communication to presenting author in this regard will be sent by the organizing secretary. If the number of papers selected for presentation is less than 5 in any year, no prize shall be awarded. The sequence for the presentation of papers shall be determined by organizing secretary by draw of lots. The best paper will be adjudged by a panel of judges objectively on the basis of originality, quality of work, interpretation of data and method of presentation.

Appointment of judges and declaration of result :- The executive committee of the Society shall select two judges out of the 6 names suggested by the clinical pharmacology section of the IPS. The 3rd judge would be communicated to the General Secretary, it will be ensured by the trustees that 3rd judge should attend the conference. The judges will ordinarily be not connected with the laboratory or the place work. The president shall preside over the Achari Prize session and will compile the marks awarded by the judges. The announcement of the result shall be made by the President after the session. The U.K. Sheth prize will be awarded at the annual general body meeting by the president of the Society. To each of the presenting author a certificate of participation for U.K. Sheth Award will be given away.

Value of the Prize :- The prize will be of value of approximately Rs. 1,000/-.

3. GUFIC AWARD:- The interest earned on Rs. 15,000/- will be used for the prize. The prize will be awarded annually for the best paper presented in a session of Indigenous Drugs on the recommendations of the judges appointed by the executive. There shall be no special prize session held for the purpose. The prize shall consist of Rs.1,000/- certificate and medal. The company will also grant a sum of Rs.3,000, to the candidate if he/she likes to pursue the same work for a year. If the number of papers in the session is less than 5 in any year no prize shall be awarded.

4. O.D. GULATI PRIZE :- The proposal for O.D. Gulati prize was approved and instituted in 1989. The prize shall be awarded out of the interest accrued upon the endowment fund. The value of the prize shall be Rs.1000/- and the remaining amount of the interest shall be utilized for printing certificate, medal etc.

The prize shall be awarded annually for the best paper presented in a session on autacoid, autonomic and Cardiovascular Pharmacology session. by the valid member of the Society. There shall be preferably a special prize session held for the purpose. The work should have been conducted in an Indian Laboratory. The presenting author must be a registered delegate for the conference. If the number of papers in the session is less than 5 in any year the prize can be awarded to the best paper presented in the ordinary session on autacoid, autonomic and Cardiovascular Pharmacology. The executive committee of the Society shall appoint three judges to assess the best paper for the award.

5. P.C. DANDIYA PRIZE :- The proposal for the P.C. Dandiya best poster presentation at the annual conference was instituted from the Silver Jubilee conference of the Society in 1992. Professor P.C. Dandiya donated a sum of Rs. 10,000/- and subsequently another Rs.2000/- was added the corpus. The first author of the best poster presentation at the annual conference will received a prize of Rs.1000/- certificate and medal. A panel of three experts (judges) appointed by the executive committee shall select the best poster. If the number of poster presentation is less than 5 in any year no prize shall be awarded.
